SF+Whirling Defense vs mindblade = win
Whirling defense is a very interesting skill and even more so when combined with shadowform now that you can be hit.
I was surprised at how much damage and how fast the mindblades die with whirling defense on when they don't waste time to cast spells. I had quite a few cons going but I always do when testing concepts that way i have more room for error.
I think there is potential here for a neat build. I also noticed that with max vanguard damage ward you need almost 0 points in marksmanship and wilderness survival to achieve max damage for ignite arrows/needing shot under sf. It worked pretty good for the stragglers, but I am still looking at other options.
I was thinking a 2 man team could be pretty neat with the whirling ranger and a sf using necro that puts out mark of pain. It would most likely be an instant death for the mindblades. I suppose I will sleep now but I figured this might be fun for others to mess with or build on.

To do without cons:
Replace first two sin skills with Dust Trap and Flame Trap to kill Graspings.
Replace Needling Shot with Snow Storm to kill Graspings.
Replace Ignite with Natural Stride to run.
Replace EBSoH with SQ to maintain SF.
Set two sets of traps by Benton, pull Graspings, and use Snow Storm or other traps as needed. Use superior Expertise and WS. Run places with Dwarven + Natural Stride. Don't use superior Exp while running, if possible. Ball stuff up and kill it. Kill stragglers with Snow Storm.
It worked for me. Probably not the most efficient way to do it, though. Traps take about 30 seconds to set up and running there is a bit difficult.

Hmmm, Famine + Visage?! Now you are hit with melee attacks...
(Go on Guild Wars to test it out)
Be back later!

Kind of hard to see in the picture, though I'm guessing this is a ranger primary?

Since you are now a A/Me/R, you're going to have to get a hero across the mountains...

Well, you kind of need an essence to get the most out of this build. Without that, you'll need deadly paradox which will cancel whirling defense out. However, an essence and 12 shadow arts is not enough to keep it up, so more cons may be needed. In the end, its probably just better to use it without dwarven stability. Still amazing.
I actually tried something like this with my sin:
Dp, Sf, Dwarven Stability, Whirling Defense, EBSoH, Great Dwarf Armor, Way of Perfection, Shroud of Distress
Used daggers with EBSoH to kill dream riders and to finish off mindblades. Doesn't do nearly as much damage as ranger primary, but still pretty good. I only did two mobs of mindblades because I had to go after that, and got 6 ectos just from killing the last 18 mindblades. It was nice!

True, but if you use whirling only after you just refreshed DP + Shadow Form, it could last its full duration (without using Dwarven Stability that is)
How much health will they have lost in that time though?
because Whirlings 60 sec recharge says hi
Question @ OP: How many recasts of whirling did it take to kill a group of mindblades?

if it is a group of 9 it takes one cast of it and they die in about 30-40 seconds. I am actually exploring other routes than sf right now as that does take some cons to maintain. The thing is the mind blades really do kill themselves fast with whirling defense. This is all assuming you let a 100% dwarven stability extend whirling defense.

Nice idea, I'll have to play around with it later.
Yeah a Necro buddy would definitely speed up the whole thing, having him or her cast SS as you tank Grasps at the start and stuff then MoP when farming.
Another idea I'm thinking of is maybe having another Ranger trapper with you to trap the Grasps at the beginning, and then maintain QZ with SQ while grouping and killing the Mindblades.
This would stop you having to swap stances at least. Maybe can add BuH to increase damage.
Have to think of some solo methods first though as doing it solo would be nice.

I used this build and it worked perfectly, 12 Shadow Arts, and 16 expertise,
DP, SF, Shroud of Distress, Way of Perfection, Whirling Defense, Shadow Sanctuary, Snowstorm, and Dash.
My heroes are a SF E/Mo with prot spirit and spirit bond, a SS witjhh enfeebling blood and some resto healing, and a rit with SoS bloodsong Ancestors rage and spirit rift.
Just tank with microed PS in chamber. Clear everything except aataxes on right side, clear to behemoths, than run to plains using shadow sanctuary as a heal.
NOTE: you need a zealous scythe and high energy staff to keep up energy. (both scythe and staff need to have enchanting mod)
